An Interview with Mrs. Mosquito

 

It was a hot summer evening.

 

Seojun went for a walk in the park.

 

Soon, he was sweating.

 

Seojun: I’m thirsty. I want something cold to drink.

 

At that moment, something tiny flew at him and bit his arm.

 

Mrs. Mosquito: Hey, catch me if you can.

 

Seojun: Who are you? What have you done to me?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I’m a mosquito. I’ve just finished my dinner.

 

Seojun: Where are you from? How did you find me?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I’m from a nearby river.

 

I was looking for some blood to drink there.

 

Then I smelled something sweaty and found you here.

 

Seojun: How could you smell me from the river?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: Mosquitoes can sense heat and smell very well.

 

That’s why we have survived for millions of years.

 

Seojun: Do all mosquitoes drink blood like you?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: No. Only female mosquitoes like me drink blood.

 

Male mosquitoes only feed on fruit and plant juice.

 

Seojun: That’s interesting. So why do you drink blood?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I need the protein in blood to lay my eggs.

 

Seojun: How do you drink blood? Do you have sharp teeth?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: No, I don’t have teeth.

 

But I have a long and pointed mouth.

 

So I can drink your blood easily.

 

Seojun: After you bit me, I got a bump. It itches.

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I’m sorry to hear that. Make sure you don’t scratch it.

 

Also, clean it with alcohol wipes.

 

Seojun: Alcohol wipes? I’ve never tried that before.

 

Mrs. Mosquito: It will reduce the itchiness.

 

Seojun: Okay, I’ll try that at home. Thanks.

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I have to go. See you soon.

 

Seojun: Where are you going?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: I’m going back to the river.

 

Seojun: Wait! A lot of people have suffered from

your bites.

 

How can we prevent them?

 

Mrs. Mosquito: Stay cool and wear long sleeves.
