A Thank-You Diary

 

May 1st 

Today we got some strange homework. 

 

We have to say thanks to our parents. 

 

We also have to keep a thank-you diary for a month. 

 

How can I do it? 

 

I’m not really a thanksgiver.

 

 

 

May 9th 

Mom was in the living room. 

 

I had to say thanks to her. 

 

I sat next to her. 

 

“Thank you, Mom,” I said in a soft voice. 

 

She looked at me with wide eyes. 

 

“For what? Are you all right, Jihun?” she asked. 

 

I ran away to my room. 

 

Phew! Saying thanks is not so easy!

 

May 20th 

Mom cooked pizza for lunch. 

 

I didn’t like it at all, but I had to say thanks. 

 

“Thank you, Mom. It’s so delicious,” I said with two thumbs up. 

 

Mom didn’t say “For what?” this time, but she said, “Then I will make pizza tomorrow again.” 

 

Uh-oh. I must give honest thanks.

 

 

May 30th 

Mom came home late from work. 

 

She looked very tired. 

 

I hugged her, and I said, “Thank you, Mom. 

 

I know that you work hard for us.” 

 

She hugged me with a big smile. 

 

My homework is over, but I’m going to keep my thank-you diary. 

 

I am a thanksgiver now. 

 

I think that I can spread happiness this way.
